The City of Summit Fire Department provides a comprehensive array of services including fire suppression, fire prevention, public fire safety education, rescue, 9-1-1 telecommunications, and emergency medical services at the first responder level.

Fire Department Permits
Under the State of New Jersey Uniform Fire Code (UFC), the Summit Fire Department is required to issue Fire Safety Permits when an activity is identified as a potential life safety hazard, but not requiring registration with the State. Once the permit application is complete bring it to the Summit Fire Department for processing. Fire Safety Permits are issued for the following purpose:

Torch for roof repair; open flame use or flame-producing devise for recreation and cooking purposes; welding or cutting operations; open flame or flame-producing device for fire hydrant training; the occasional use in any building for maximum permitted occupancy of 100 or more for amusement, entertainment or mercantile type purposes; and the use of a tent for amusement, entertainment or mercantile type purposes.

New Business Registration
A new business in the City of Summit is required to complete "Application for Registration of Business" for the Summit Fire Department. This form once completed gives the emergency contact information for the new business and is entered into our data base to keep this information current. Once completed, bring or mail the completed form to the Summit Fire Department. Click here for the "Application for Registration of Business" form.
